Some markets set to close early on final trading day of 2021

SINGAPORE — Shares in Australia declined in Friday morning trade, with some major markets in Asia-Pacific closed for the year or set to end early on the final trading day of 2021.

The S&P/ASX 200In Australia, morning trade fell 0.2%

The final day of trading for 2015 will see markets close in Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore on Friday.

Across Asia, the markets of South Korea and Japan have finished trading for the year. They will close Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost its six-day winning streak overnight, falling 90.55 to 36,398.08. The S&P 500 shed 0.3% to 4,778.73 while the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.16% to 15,741.56.

Currencies

The U.S. dollar indexFollowing choppy trades this week which saw the greenback drop from 96.2 to 95.8,, which measures it against its peers, stood at 95.999.

The Japanese yenThe greenback was weaker this week than it was against the dollar at 114.6. The Australian dollarThe price was still at $0.7248 which is above the levels of $0.723 earlier in this week.
