SAO PAULO (Reuters – Brazilian President Jairbolsonaro has announced a 700 million reais ($125.67m) relief credit line for the northeastern region, a day following the decline of an offer from Argentina.

As record rainfalls struck parts of northeastern England, some dams collapsed and at least 24 people were killed. Tens of thousands of others have become homeless.

Bolsonaro’s Friday statement follows one he made on Twitter (NYSE.) Thursday where he claimed that Brazilian authorities are already offering the services provided by Argentina. The governor of Bahia, which was hard hit by Bolsonaro’s remarks quickly responded to his comments. He said that any country would be welcome to help local authorities and that they are available for assistance.
