(Reuters) – JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) has offered its staff the option of working from home for the first two weeks of 2022, with a caveat that all employees are expected to return to office no later than Feb. 1, according to a memo seen by Reuters.

Workers were informed by the bank that they would not change their long-term plans to work from home. According to the memo, “With holiday travel increasing and gatherings, we will allow more flexibility for the first two weeks in January to work remotely (if you are allowed by your manager)”.

Citigroup A person who is familiar with this matter said to Reuters that the (NYSE: ) also requested its employees work remotely during the first week of 2022.

According to the bank, employees in New York City had been told Dec. 15 that they can work remotely if necessary during holidays.

Despite being more proactive than any other industry in encouraging their employees to return to work, the plans of U.S. banks are now under scrutiny because Omicron coronavirus has rapidly spread.

JPMorgan advised Manhattan-based unvaccinated workers to work at home earlier in the month. It also relaxed mask requirements for Manhattan employees who have been vaccinated.
