Massive sewage spill closes California beaches -Breaking

(Reuters) – Officials said that a large amount of raw sewage was released into the water supply in Long Beach, California.
The City of Long Beach released a statement saying that between 2 million and 4million gallons (8.6 million to 15.3 million liters), of raw sewage were found in the Dominguez Channel. This channel empties into Los Angeles’ harbor.
According to the release, the leak happened in Carson. It was due to a failure of a 48 inch sewer main line. However, it was unclear why the sewer main failed.
Long Beach city water quality teams are currently testing the levels of pollution in affected areas. This includes beaches that stretch 7 miles (11km). The waters around the affected areas will be closed to swimming until pollution levels return to normal.
New Year’s Eve celebrations tourists were not pleased with the results.
You travel all the way, but you aren’t allowed to go on the beach or in the sea. Sandi Williams from suburb Massachusetts told the Los Angeles Times that it doesn’t seem fair. “We had been so excited to see this new scenery. However, as with everything, there is always disaster.”
