Cryptocurrency WorldMap Statistics: What Coins Attracted the Most Attention In 2021?

2021 was full of key moments that sparked and defined the growth of the cryptocurrency industry, increasing global interest in various assets events such as; exceeding $1 trillion in market value and becoming a legal tender in El Salvador; Elon Musk “boosting” Dogecoin’s price; upgrading its system, the explosion of the metaverse, and the surge of blockchain games.

With many Altcoins gaining trust and recognition, world map statistics, by Über Holger from Blockchain Center, have revealed coin search interest by country.

While Bitcoin still dominates the market, it loses 25% in public interest every year.

Bitcoin continues to dominate the crypto market. It was the #1 searched cryptocurrency in each country in 2021. This is compared with last year’s 80.8% dominance. The rise in Altcoins, which trended last year, likely explains the drop in public attention.

With 98% of the total volume searched, Bitcoin was El Salvador’s most popular keyword.

South America was most interested in Bitcoin. Asia is more inclined towards Altcoins.

Altcoins in Ukraine, Vietnam, Japan and Norway were more popular than Bitcoin.

Ethereum is the top altcoin

Top 3 Altcoins that are most frequently searched worldwide include Ethereum (13.2%), (7.8%) and (5.5%). Dogecoin was the Altcoin with the greatest interest, ranking in the U.S., India, Iran and Iran. Ethereum is still the dominant Altcoin.

Tron was the most popular altcoin in Norway, Denmark and Vietnam. XRP, the second most important Altcoin, is most well-known in East Asia. It’s the best Altcoin to use in South Korea, Japan and the Philippines. ETH ranks 0.3% lower.

Dogecoin in the U.S. was twice as popular than Ethereum, with searches dominance at 21.2% and 11.9%.

The Altcoins ranking 5th – 10th were Tron, , , , , and . 2020’s top Altcoins, , IOTA, and Monero, didn’t make it to this year’s ranking.

Cardano was Europe’s most popular cryptocurrency with 9.9% dominance (in Italy), 8.3% in Portugal and 8.2% in The Netherlands), 7.6% in Greece, 6.9% in Spain, and 8.3% in Portugal.

The Flipside

  • The map wasn’t fully representative of certain countries, particularly in Africa and Asia, due to a lack of data.
  • Blockchain Center points out that Polygon and, as well as, were not included in the ranking. This is due to the fact the words can be used in a number of contexts. It would also mean that they aren’t indicative of true public interest. Tron, for example, may also be misrepresented, as the keyword could be in reference to either the movie “Tron” or the car “Audi e-tron.”
