Apple’sAirPods enjoyed another holiday season of success.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, top Apple analyst at TFI Asset Management Limited, the company sold 27,000,000 pairs of its latest AirPods. This equates to 90 million units sold in the holiday quarter 2021. Kuo indicated that this will result in a 20% growth year-over-year for Apple’s wearable gadget company.
Kuo’s latest report arrives ahead of what is expected to be an exciting year for Apple’s smartwatch business. Kuo indicated that Apple will release a new AirPods Pro version in the autumn of 2012. Apple may also unveil the long-rumored AR headset. Apple has created a rich hardware ecosystem around its iPhone, which is Apple’s most valuable and lucrative product.
Apple does not break down its wearables revenues, however, it makes up a substantial portion of the “Other Products”, line item that includes accessories like iPhone cases or charging cables. Apple recorded nearly $13 Billion in Other Products revenues in 2020’s holiday quarter. This number will be interesting to see when Apple releases earnings for its last quarter.
Apple introduced a “regular” version of AirPods last autumn that includes many of the same features and noise cancellation as its Pro models. The four AirPods models available range in price from $129 to $549.
Kuo revealed that the AirPods Pro’s next release will feature a revised design and an audio system for streaming music. Apple is expected to sell as many as 20 million AirPods Pro models this year, according to Kuo.
Other wearables are also available. Bloomberg reportedApple may launch the AR headset in spring of this year. The company also announced that it could go on sale at the beginning of next year. Meanwhile, MetaFacebook, the parent company of Facebook, will release an upgraded version this year. Bloomberg said that there would be an updated version of Apple Watch in 2013, including one with a more rugged design.
