TORONTO, (Reuters) – Officials in Canada’s Ontario Province announced on Monday that they will restrict the spread and control the coronavirus. They warned about a possible “tsunami” of COVID-19-related cases within the next few days.
From Wednesday, all public and private schools in Canada will transition to remote education. This is the province with the most people. Some parents were critical of the move.
Bronwen alsop (a Toronto resident) said that “we don’t support any possibility of schools being delayed.” Alsop claimed that curbs to schooling are causing long-term collateral damage for children.
Athena Reich, single mother of 2 said: “You cannot expect mothers not to work to support their children online and stay at home.”
The province stated that retail settings including shopping centers will be allowed to continue at half capacity.
Indoor weddings, funerals and other religious services will have a maximum capacity of 50%. Outdoor services are limited to those who can walk 2 metres (6 feet) distance.
These restrictions are in effect for at most 21 days.
Omicron infections and exposure in Ontario hospitals, schools and other facilities are expected to cause an increase in absenteism and impact operations at workplaces throughout the province.
Doug Ford, Ontario Premier, stated Monday at a press conference that “We are facing a tsunami in new cases in days and weeks ahead.” We are now preparing for the impact.
On Monday, other actions were announced including closing indoor restaurants and bars, closing theatres and cinemas in the indoor concert venue and closing all indoor recreation and fitness centers.
Businesses and other organizations are also required to take steps to ensure that their employees do not work from home unless it is absolutely necessary.
According to the government, there were 1,232 COVID-19-infected people in the province.
