BERLIN (Reuters), Daimler (OTC) Chief Technology Officer Markus Schaefer stated that the luxury car manufacturer expects the supply of chips to be scarce through 2022, especially in the first half.

Schaefer told a roundtable of journalists that chip scarcity would also be with us in 2022, in particular in the first quarter.”

He said, “We don’t anticipate significant production capacity increase in the first quarter of the year…these will scarcely come in full year.”

Daimler (to be renamed Mercedes-Benz) produced 23.9% less cars than in the previous year’s October and 21.8% in November 2021, reflecting a drop in production as global carmakers struggle to obtain enough chips.
