FRANKFURT – Bayer is expected to ask for a total of 2.2 billion euros (2.5 billion USD) from investors as part of a possible German class action suit over the purchase of u.s. seed producer. Monsanto (NYSE:), WirtschaftsWoche reported on Monday.

Citing a statement from specialist law firm Tilp Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft, the magazine said that as of Dec. 31, the sum covered lawsuits from about 320 investors, both institutional and retail.

This is a substantial increase from the 25-plus investors who demanded damages in excess of 1 billion euro that Tilp revealed last month.

Tilp claims that Bayer deceived its shareholders over the potential risks associated with consumer lawsuits pending at the United States in connection to Roundup, a weed killer. Roundup was acquired by Monsanto for $63 billion in 2016.

In an email statement Bayer stated that any complaints are unfounded and added that the company has complied to the law as well as disclosure requirements.

Bayer added, “In addition to we are confident that we have conducted adequate due diligence regarding Monsanto’s acquisition,” adding that the company would defend itself accordingly.

Tilp wasn’t immediately available to comment.

Bayer in America is fighting against thousands upon thousands of Roundup-user lawsuits. Bayer has consistently rejected these claims.
