WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Japanese automaker Toyota Motor (NYSE 🙂 Corp outsold General Motors Co. in the United States 2021. It is the first time since 1931 that Detroit hasn’t led U.S. automobile sales.
According to the automakers, Toyota sold 2.33 million cars in America in 2021, while General Motors had sold just 2.18 million.
GM sales in the U.S. were down by 13%, while Toyota’s was up 10%. GM had 2.55 million U.S. sales in 2020, compared to Toyota’s 2.11million and Ford’s 2.04 millions.
