Volkswagen Malaysia unveils its NFT Collection

Volkswagen (DE) Passenger Cars Malaysia is collaborating to create its unique collection of NFTs with a new media arts group Filamen. Four NFTs are taken from Volkswagen’s iconic vehicle. They can be found on Pentas, an NFT platform in South East Asia powered by Binance Smart Chain. Erik Winter, VPCM Managing Direct, stated that the collection is now available on Pentas.

Volkswagen is at the forefront in Malaysia’s digitalization efforts. We are always striving to push digital frontiers.

Filamen’s Virtual Gallery and Co-curated Design Research Platform, No-to -Scale, includes the NFTs. Syed Mohamad and Jason Choo of Filamen were commissioned to construct the NFTs in response to the Volkswagen Arteon’s “design and performance—from the sound to the shape and the little elements that count.”

Choo calls his NFTs “fictional images.” Choo describes the art as futuristic, and rocketship designs are included. He calls his work “imagining future worlds we might live in.” The confluence between art and technology has always fascinated me. Jason adds that I admire Volkswagen’s dedication to innovation as an artist. It was incredible to translate the Arteon and make it more than just a car through my artwork.”

Syed’s research, however, is centered on “energy”, and “motion.” Syed claims that

It is meant to look like “ocean surfaces waves” and reminds me of shaggy rug that you can rub your hands on. All of the NFTs, unlike the photos I took above, are animated GIFs and/or video files. They may include the sounds of an engine running or an explosion like a rocket.

I have learned to look at an automobile from a completely new perspective through this endeavor. Being able to study every inch of the Arteon and then convey my feelings via my painting while being loyal to not just my creative style—but also to the Arteon’s DNA, was a wonderful experience,” Syed explains.

Volkswagen Malaysia’s NFT collection unveiling isn’t unexpected. NFTs can generate substantial revenue, despite the environmental impact they have.
