Exclusive-Walmart halves paid leave for COVID-positive workers, extends hybrid work guidelines -Breaking

(Reuters) – Walmart (NYSE) Inc now offers up to one week paid time off if a worker signs COVID-19. This is in addition to its previous policy of up to two weeks. According to a memo Reuters received,

A memo was sent to U.S. long-haul drivers and hourly associates on Tuesday. It stated that all COVID-19-positive workers, as well as those who were required to quarantine by Walmart or another health provider, will be entitled to paid time off. This is based on the average of their 26 previous pay periods.

“COVID-19 Absences, Emergency Leave” policy updates guidance that was issued Dec. 1, 2021. This stated that employees would receive up to 2 weeks paid leave.

Walmart, which is America’s biggest private employer, employs 1.6million people.

Walmart spokeswoman confirmed that the COVID leave policy had been changed. Walmart asked corporate workers to work remotely until January 30, even though the offices will remain open, according to the spokesperson. The previous request was for workers to be available virtually from Jan. 10 onwards.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people should isolate for five days instead of ten days after a COVID-19 infected.
