NEW YORK, (Reuters) – U.S. prosecutors last week convicted Ghislaine Maxill for her part in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuses. On Wednesday, they asked the trial judge for an inquiry into the statements of one juror to the media regarding being a victim.

Scotty David was the first and last name of the juror who requested to be identified as such. He said that he had “flew through” the questionnaire before Maxwell’s trial, which sought to establish whether potential jurors would have the ability to judge Maxwell fairly. However, he did not remember being asked about Maxwell’s experiences with sexual abuse. He stated that he would answer honestly.

U.S. attorney Damian Williams, along with prosecutors, wrote to Alison Nathan, U.S. District Judge in Manhattan. They stated that the jury’s statements were worthy of court attention and requested that an hearing be set up within one month.

Court staff also should question the juror about whether they want a lawyer. The Daily Mail and The Independent were also mentioned by the prosecutors.

Maxwell’s lawyers did not respond immediately to requests for comment. Scotty David did no immediate respond to requests for comment.

Maxwell, 60 was convicted of sex traficking, and other charges related to recruiting and grooming minor girls for Epstein’s abuse, 1994 to 2004.

She could be sentenced to up to 70-years in prison, but she will likely appeal the conviction that was handed down after a lengthy trial.

Epstein was a financial professional who committed suicide in Manhattan in August 2019, while waiting for his own trial on sex trafficking.

Scotty David is a Manhattan resident of 35 years old who told Reuters that he had shared with Reuters his experiences of being sexually abused in childhood during deliberations.

Scotty David, who was referring to the other jurors, said that they could come to an agreement on it when I shared it.

He stated that it wasn’t simple to come up with a consensus verdict, and that this was true of all parties.

Maxwell was found guilty of five out six charges she faced. Two additional perjury cases will be brought against Maxwell in a second case that is yet to be set.
