SonyIt has released new details on its next-generation VR headset, and shown what it will look like through a demonstration for a upcoming PlayStation Game.

Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO confirmed the name of their new hardware at the CES tech event in Las Vegas. This will replace its predecessor PS VR. This headset is compatible with Sony’s PlayStation 5 console which was released late 2020.

According to a report, PS VR2 will include an OLED screen that supports 4K resolution and a new controller, called PS VR2 Sens. blogpostPublished by Sony Tuesday. The single cable will connect it to the PS5

It will include eye-tracking technology to monitor how players interact with games, as well as a motor with vibrations that creates headset feedback.

Sony has yet to reveal the exact design of the new headset but the company did give an early glimpse at the game experience by showing the trailer for Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

It is the exact same world that Sony’s hit action game Horizon. The Horizon game sees players fighting dinosaur-like creatures in a postapocalyptic environment.

Horizon Zero Dawn was the first episode of the series, and Sony will release Horizon Forbidden West in its sequel next month.

Sony’s PS VR2 hardware was revealed at a crucial time for Facebook, the parent company. Meta and others attempt to capitalize on a buzzy new trend in tech — the “metaverse.” This is a shared virtual environment in which people can interact, work and play with one another. Virtual reality technology is used in many iterations.

In a pivot towards the metaverse, Meta was rebranded by Facebook last year. Oculus Quest 2, a VR headset by Oculus, was popular as a gift for the holidays. The main Oculus app reached the top of the Apple App Store charts on Christmas Day.

Experts are however concerned. how safe the metaverse will be. Virtual reality systems are often not controlled by parents, so apps such as VRChat can be easily abused.
