Hong Kong is banning all public activity, from bars and pubs to sport venues and karaoke areas, starting Friday

The Asian financial hub will be re-imposing strict Covid-19 measures for two weeks — starting Friday to Jan. 20 — as the city braces for the spread of the highly infectious omicron variant. In one week, they will all be reviewed.

Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Lam Family announced Wednesday that she was facing an extremely dire situation and must take decisive steps to end this outbreak.

It was announced by the government incoming flights from eight countries will be bannedFrom Saturday, January 21 to Sunday, Jan. 21. These countries include Australia, Canada and France.

Hong Kong has now confirmed 12,708 cases of coronavirus, with 38 cases in Hong Kong. according to a government website.

Up to Thursday, 73.4.% have received two doses. according to government data. 

These stricter social distance rules prohibit eating at restaurants after 6 pm, and close all theme parks, museums, and other venues, including bars, gyms, and fitness centers.

Cyclothon, a massive cycling competition, is being cancelled. Entertainment facilities like Hong Kong Disneyland, cruise line tours and nightclubs as well as karaoke and other venues such entertainment are being canceled for the 14-day period that begins Friday.

This is a complete list of all items that will close starting January 7.

  • Dine-in restaurants must stop serving customers from 6 p.m. to 4.59 am local time on the next day.
  • All bars and pubs are closed.
  • Caterers are prohibited from performing live music or engaging in dancing. There should be no karaoke, mahjong Tin kau or other entertainment.
  • The following entertainment venues will close: party and event venues, cinemas, museums, theme parks, party rooms and game rooms.
  • Sport and beauty: The beauty salons, beauty parlors, and swimming pools will all be closed.
  • To cease all local tours, and cruises-to-nowhere.
  • Visits to nursing homes and public hospitals have been halted.
