Pfizer vaccine effective protects against MIS-C, CDC says

In a Friday report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Pfizer’s91% of adolescents were protected against multisystem inflammatory disorder (MIS-C), by vaccination.
The CDC looked at 283 patients aged 12-18 in 24 children’s hospitals from July 2021 to December 2021. When delta was predominant, it included 283 of these hospitalized kids. Because Pfizer shots were not available for younger children until November, the analysis was limited to 12–18-year-olds.
The CDC reported that vaccine efficacy for MIS-C was not determined by the timing of this study.
MIS-C refers to a severe condition where different parts of your body are inflamed. This includes the heart, lungs and kidneys. The CDC states that MIS-C usually occurs in children two to six weeks after an asymptomatic, mild Covid or other infection.
According to CDC statistics, more than 6,000 kids have been diagnosed with MIS-C and 55 children have already died. Most MIS-C victims are Hispanics or Black. Half of them are between five and thirteen years old. The CDC reports that 98% of MIS-C victims tested positive to Covid. Only 2%, however, had been exposed.
The CDC study compared 102 hospitalized MISC patients to 181 people who were either negative or had no symptoms. 95% of MIS-C patient were not vaccinated. Three-quarters of MIS-C patients who were fully vaccinated did not require life support. 39% had to be vaccinated.
In its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the CDC stated that this analysis supports the conclusion of the CDC: “This analysis lends support to the hypothesis that vaccination of children and teenagers is highly protective against MIS -C and COVID-19 and emphasizes the importance for vaccination of all eligible kids.”
The two-dose Pfizer vaccination is available for children 5 to 12. Pfizer booster shots are available to adolescents 12 years and older at least 5 months following their last dose.
