WASHINGTON (Reuters), – On Friday, two U.S. senators expressed concern about Airbnb Inc.’s business activities within China’s Xinjiang province.

Senator Jeff Merkley and Representative James McGovern, two Democrats who respectively chair and co-chair the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, sent Airbnb a letter asking about some of its listings in Xinjiang and other issues.

China claims that there were no abuses of Xinjiang’s people, however the U.S. government as well as many rights organizations claim Beijing has committed genocide in this area.

Both Airbnb and Washington’s Chinese Embassy did not respond immediately to our requests for comment.
