WASHINGTON (Reuters] – U.S. trade representative Katherine Tai said Friday that the United States supported Lithuania and the European Union despite “economic coercion from China” during a conference call with Valdis Dombrovskis who is the EU executive vice president.
Tai is supporting Lithuania for the second time this week. Tai discussed Wednesday’s call with Gabrielius Landesbergis, Lithuanian Foreign Minister, to emphasize the U.S. support for the EU and its member countries in order to end “coercive diplomacy and economic behavior”.
China is putting pressure on Lithuania to reverse its decision to let Taiwan open an embassy in Vilnius last year under its own name.
