Novak Djokovic, tennis star has won his Australian court fight after his visa was cancelled due to Covid-19 vaccination. This happened before the Australian Open.

After arriving in Melbourne to play in the Australian Open, the 34-year old Serbian national and number one world player was taken into custody by immigration officials. Officials claimed that he had violated strict country entry regulations which require all visitors to be immunized against Covid-19. Djokovic is a vocal anti-vaccine skeptic and his passport was confiscated by customs after officials determined that he didn’t have enough medical reasons to be granted a vaccine exemption.

On Monday’s emergency virtual court hearing, Anthony Kelly (federal judge) spoke for Djokovic and demanded information about what the athlete could do to fulfill Australia’s entry requirements. Monday’s hearing by the government acknowledged Djokovic’s team that they were not given enough time to respond after being informed of Djokovic’s visa cancellation.

But the saga is not over — Australia’s immigration minister can still personally step in and cancel his visa regardless on new grounds. Djokovic may face a new court battle if Alex Hawke decides to act. He could also be banned from playing tennis in Australia for up to three years.
