LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – The remake of West Side Story by Steven Spielberg was named the best comedy or musical film in a private Golden Globes ceremony. Organisers announced this online.

This movie musical is about a young couple who falls in love with rival street gangs. Rachel Zegler, a star of the movie musical and comedy, was awarded best actress in film.

After 2021 criticism that the organizers of the Globes (the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, HFPA) had operated with unethical policies and no Black members, actors, directors, and movie studios have largely ignored them. NBC, a veteran broadcaster decided to not air this year’s award show.

At a Beverly Hills ceremony, the HFPA announced its selections. The organization has recently expanded its membership, diversified its practice, and restructured its operations. The audience was presented with awards by recipients of HFPA philanthropic grants. Public announcements of the Golden Globes winners were made via social media, and online.

The Globes attract millions of television viewers each year to an extravagant red carpet with celebrities and a champagne-fuelled dinner. It is a glamourous, yet casual affair compared to Academy Awards which are the highest film honours in the industry.
