SEOUL (Reuters – South Korea’s telecommunication regulator stated Tuesday that Apple Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 has submitted plans for third-party payments on its App store to comply with a law prohibiting major app stores from forcing developers to use their payment systems.

Korea Communications Commission had previously requested that Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:) Google and Apple submit plans for compliance following the passage of the bill in August. It went into effect on September.

Google revealed its intention to permit alternative payment methods in South Korea, in accordance with the Telecommunication Business Act. This was dubbed “anti-Google law”.

Apple stated in a statement that it was looking forward to working together with the KCC, our developers community and finding a solution for our Korean users. However, Apple did not give details about the timeline or the commission fees rates.

The regulator stated that Apple plans to talk with the KCC about further details. KCC stated that Apple intends to offer alternative payment options for an lower service fee, compared with the 30% currently charged.

American iPhone maker Apple is facing an Epic Games lawsuit in which Epic Games was trying to avoid Apple’s 30% fees on in-app purchases. Epic Games launched its own payment system.

A U.S. Judge ordered Apple last year to amend its App Store rules. These prohibit developers from placing links in buttons that allow for outside payments systems instead of Apple’s.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, “I hope Apple’s move here in South Korea (in South Korea), isn’t yet another fake opening payment systems like Google recently announced.”

Apple claimed that it has paid $260 billion to developers through its App store since 2008’s launch, which translates into a 60 billion payment for developers by 2021.
