Sega Chooses to Stand in the NFT Gaming Discussions and BlockchainIn the last 10 years, crypto and NFTs have come under intense scrutiny. GSC Game World and Steam have decided to not consider dealing with nonfungible tokens. Square Enix, Konami and Ubisoft have set their sights on blockchain as the technology of the future.
Sega reached a partnership with many companies in order to release NFTs featuring some of his most famous characters at the beginning of 2021. Sega believed the technology was worth using, even in November. He expressed an interest in continuing to experiment in this field. After community feedback, however, Sega was able to reconsider the decision. After the backlash they made the following claims:
We need to evaluate many factors, including how we can reduce the negative effects, how much regulation we can include in Japan, and how users will accept or reject certain items.
We will then consider it further, if necessary, to fulfill our mission of “Constantly creating, forever captivating”, however, if the idea is just money-making, I’d like to stop.
