WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The Federal Aviation Administration said Tuesday that it temporarily halted flights at West Coast airports on Monday in response to reports that North Korea was launching a missile.

A U.S. representative told Reuters that the FAA halted West Coast operations for less time than 15 minutes because of initial reports about events in the Indo-Pacific. He did not tie it directly to the missile launch. The United States had earlier condemned North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile, saying that it breaches multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions, and is threatening its neighboring countries and international community.

Tuesday’s FAA statement added that it regularly takes precautionary steps. The FAA is currently reviewing this ground stop, as it does after any such events.
