U.S. Sen. Rand Paul driving violent threats against me, Fauci says -Breaking
WASHINGTON (Reuters] – On Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the U.S. top infectious disease official, accused Republican Senator Rand Paul indicted him of spreading misinformation. This has sparked violence threats against his family and dragged the public away from fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fauci, who is a senatorial health committee member and a supporter of President Donald Trump, had an intense back-and forth with Paul at a Senate hearing. Fauci claimed that Paul was focusing on misleading attacks and not oversight to address the US’s health crisis which has already killed over 800,000.
Paul accuses Fauci on his website of “ignoring good advice and lying about every aspect from the contagiousness to the virus to masks”; Fauci also accused Fauci Tuesday of demeaning scientists who differ with him.
Fauci stated that Paul was distorting reality.
Fauci stated to Senator that he had done the same thing at every hearing. He accused Fauci of making personal insults without any basis in reality.
Fauci stated, “He is doing it for political reasons,” Fauci continued. Fauci referred to Paul’s site’s fundraising appeals alongside a request to fire Fauci.
Fauci stated that “it distracts us from what (we) are all trying to accomplish here today which is get our hands around the epidemic, the pandemic, and not something imaginary.”
Fauci was subject to sharp criticism by conservatives as well as death threats from those who oppose vaccination and masking, which he advocated in an effort to stop the pandemic.
Fauci stated that misinformation has fuelled such threats.
Fauci stated, “What happens to me when he(Paul) comes out and accuses of me of things which are totally untrue? That all of a sudden that that ignites the crazies and that I have… threats on my life, harassment and of my family and children.”
Fauci stated that on December 21st, an Iowan was detained for allegedly trying to kill Fauci.
Paul claimed that Fauci made personal attacks on him, and claimed no one would wish violence against Fauci.
Fauci demanded that Fox News’ Jesse Watters be fired as he made comments about Watters making a “kill shot”, while criticizing Dr. Fauci.
