Audi to decide whether to enter Formula One by second quarter

BERLIN, (Reuters) – Volkswagen (DE)’s Audi will be making a decision about whether or not to enter Formula One at the end of the first quarter. Or the beginning of second quarter. A source familiar with the situation told Reuters Wednesday.
According to a source, although the subject will be addressed at a meeting of the supervisory council at the end February, a decision on the matter will not be taken until then.
German newspaper F.A.Z. F.A.Z., a German newspaper reported Wednesday that Volkswagen’s Supervisory Board would determine at February end whether Audi or Porsche will join F1.
Volkswagen did not respond to requests for comment. Porsche spokesperson said that Porsche was currently evaluating the situation and would not comment further.
Sources revealed to Reuters that Volkswagen was deciding whether to enter F1 by implementing its plan to switch to synthetic motor fuels by 2026.
According to media reports, McLaren was being bought by Audi. Both companies deny the claims. Sources at the time told Reuters that a potential partnership was in the works, though it wasn’t yet determined.
