COVID-19 picks up pace in Americas as Omicron spreads, health agency says -Breaking

BRASILIA, Reuters -The Omicron virus of COVID-19 has spread to the Americas, causing a new pandemic. The number of cases increased by 6.1 million in just one week. This was according to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Wednesday.

Omicron is now available in nearly all countries in America, and it will soon be the most popular variant of the drug in that region, according to the health agency.

It said that the United States reports the majority of new cases. States in the East, Midwest, and Midwest are experiencing large surges.

Brazil, Ecuador and Peru are all experiencing large spikes in new cases. In Argentina and Paraguay however, the COVID-19 infected have been on the rise by almost 300% in just one week.

Omicron was detected in 35 territories and countries in the Americas.

Omicron seems to have less severe symptoms, which is one thing that distinguishes it from other infections. Etienne stated that Omicron infections are lethal and can even be fatal, particularly for those with immunocompromised or unvaccinated.

Nearly 60% have had their COVID-19 vaccinations. According to her, Argentina, Chile, Cuba, and Cuba are among the countries with the highest vaccine coverage.
