Minnesota Senator Tom Emmer announced that he would introduce a bill to stop the Federal Reserve acting as a retailer bank when it comes to the possible issuance of digital dollars.

Emmer made the announcement on Wednesday. The bill would InterdictionU.S. customers are prohibited from receiving a CBDC (central bank digital currency) directly by the Fed. According to the Minnesota representative, having the government entity require users to open accounts to access the benefits of a digital dollar would “put the Fed on an insidious path akin to China’s digital authoritarianism.”
