MELBOURNE, Reuters – Organisers of the Australian Open have announced that they will postpone their draw until further notice. This was due to uncertainty over whether Novak Djokovic, top seed, would be able to cancel his visa.

Alex Hawke, the Immigration Minister is considering whether to exercise his discretionary power and revoke Djokovic’s visa. This could jeopardize his chances of winning the Open’s record 21st major title.

Although the official draw was supposed to commence at 3 p.m. GMT (0400 GMT), a staffer from tournament told reporters in the conference room that it had been cancelled.

Djokovic is a vaccine skeptic and caused anger across Australia when he said he would be heading to Melbourne to play in the Australian Open. He also announced that he had a medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
