WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The United States does not yet know the cause of Havana Syndrome or its causes. This was stated by Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary for State. He spoke out after additional American diplomats fell ill in Geneva and Paris.

Blinken indicated that all federal agencies are working to identify the source of the disease, which has affected approximately 200 U.S. diplomats, officers, and relatives overseas.

In an interview with MSNBC, Blinken stated that “To date we don’t know what’s happened” and did not know who was responsible.

The Wall Street Journal published Thursday’s report that more illnesses were reported by officials of U.S. diplomatic mission in Paris. The United States and Russia met Monday to discuss the issue of Moscow’s troops building up near Ukraine.

Blinken claimed that while the United States had raised the diseases with the Russians, it could still not determine who caused them.

It is a mysterious condition that causes nausea, dizziness, memory problems, and migraines. In 2016, the first time it was reported by U.S. officials to be found in Cuba’s capital.

Blinken stated that he met State Department workers around the globe who shared their stories about the illness and the disruptions they had experienced.

He stated, “There’s no doubt that people were directly and profoundly affected.”

“We’re working overtime in the whole government to figure out who was responsible and what caused it. In the meantime, we will make sure to provide support for those who have been affected as well as to ensure that all our citizens are protected to the fullest extent of our abilities.
