JAKARTA (Reuters – Indonesian investigators might need an additional year to find out the causes of last year’s Sriwijaya Air crash that resulted in the deaths of all 62 onboard, according to an interim report published on Thursday.
A final report should be prepared according to international standards within one year from the Jan. 9th, 2021, crash. But the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee, KNKT, stated that it was difficult for the team to travel due the pandemic.
Nurcahyo Umoo (KNKT Investigator) told Reuters, “Because we have just gathered data, we are compiling a complete report, including an assessment and a conclusion.”
Sriwijaya was Indonesia’s third serious airline accident in just six years. It shined a light on Indonesia’s terrible air safety record.
An imbalanced thrust caused the Boeing Co 737-500 (NYSE:) to take 26 years old, and eventually lead the aircraft into a steep roll before descending into the water. The interim report stated that the plane landed in the sea.
It was also in line with an earlier report from last year.
The reports stated that the left throttle moved forward while the right one remained in the original position after the plane had reached 8.150 feet (2.484 meters) from Jakarta.
Two previous problems were reported to the engine control system, which is based on maintenance logs. However, the problem was fixed four days prior to the accident, KNKT stated last year.
The preliminary report released in March showed that the pilot voice recorder had been recovered from the Java Sea.
Interim report stated that communications of the first officer were captured, but only the voice and words of captains were heard by the microphone on the headset. The interim report did not give details about the communications.
Also, tests were conducted to determine if the ground proximity system was working properly. The investigator also examined spoiler angles and flight control. According to the report, two flight simulations were performed in the United States.
