WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The White House announced Thursday that another 1,000 federal health workers were deployed to six states to relieve overwhelmed hospitals in the wake of the U.S. spike in Omicron-related OVID-19 cases.

According to a White House official, the military will send between 7 and 25 teams of doctors, nurses, and other personnel to New York and New Jersey to assist emergency rooms and provide support for hospital staff.

Biden will address the COVID response of his administration at 10:30 a.m. (1530 GMT), along with U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Kriswell.

Since July, his administration has sent federal surge teams to fight the Delta COVID-19 variant. Biden ordered Austin in December to prepare another 1,000 federal medical troops and to send more than 100 federal personnel to Michigan and Indiana.

U.S.COVID-19 hospitalizations hit a record high after increasing steadily since late December according to a Reuters tally. This was because Omicron became the predominant variant of the disease.

Omicron has caused a strain in health systems across several states. They have had to put off elective surgeries. Omicron also drives up the number of cases and sidelines those who are suffering from COVID infection or were exposed to the virus.

Many states have declared emergency in order to relax regulations and provide funding for the surge.

Biden was criticized for Omicron’s COVID Response. This response triggers staff shortages in schools and businesses, and also tests and exhausts weary Americans.

U.S. officials have continued to push vaccinations and boosters. They said this week that although Omicron is likely to infect most Americans, those who were vaccinated will not get sick.

The president stated Tuesday that he is “confident” we are on the right path.

The administration of his predecessor is currently shipping millions of COVID test results, which some have criticized as being too late. They are also considering other options such as making high-quality masks for face use.

As the disease enters its third-year, it has claimed 847,664 deaths. There have been 63,268,225 cases.
