MILAN (Reuters), Alessandro Benetton announced Friday that he has accepted the chairmanship of Edizione, his family holding company. This position will allow him to oversee the transformation of the group which controls many of Italy’s largest companies like Autogrill and Atlantia.
In an Instagram video, the Benetton scion said that he saw a chance to make a shift and reinterpret our business strategy which has defined us over the years as a family.
To a follower, he replied that the group would be following the principle sustainability in a wide-ranging, social and global context.
Benetton stated that the previous group made the same mistakes due to assigning the wrong tasks and that the “tragic consequences” of the Morandi Bridge collapse in Genoa were a result.
43 people were killed when a bridge that was operated by Atlantia in Genoa, the north city’s tollway division collapsed. To avoid its threatened cancellation, the Benetton family supported the sale of Atlantia’s motorway assets in Italy to save their lucrative concession.
Benetton is the head of 21 Invest in Italy, and was reappointed as Edizione’s chairman on Thursday. This brings the Benettons back at the helm.
