Fans Controlled Football Raised $40M. New Owners of the Team Are NFT Collectors

Fans Controlled Football allows Los Angeles football fans to take control of the games via their phones. They can vote from different plays to call the plays. The Non-Fungible Token will allow them to cast their votes and determine which plays they want.

It was established in 2017 but the league changed its strategy and it officially launched in February 2021. The league started with four teams and grew to eight before the introduction of The Bored Ape Yacht Club or The Gutter Cat Gang. These two would manage their NFTs. Other teams that would be joining the FCF’s upcoming nine-week season are those owned by retired NFL stars Tiki and Ronde Barber and musician Steve Aoki.

During the league’s inaugural season, NFL stars such as Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman, Austin Ekeler, Dallvin Cook, and rapper Quavo owned teams, and the season garnered 10 million live views on Twitch. The league has announced its partnership agreement with DAZN to provide global broadcast coverage. Its new Atlanta venue will soon be revealed.

GamesBeat interviewed Sohrob Farudi CEO of FCF in an interview.

“It has live sports, real players, real coaches, a real league, but it is built for the digital age and the digital fan. Instead of focusing solely on in-person experiences, we now focus on what people do on their mobile phones and the internet. And we wanted to make it interactive, we wanted to lean into gaming and esports.”
