Republican U.S. Rep Katko, who voted to impeach Trump, will not seek re-election -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. Representative John Katko was one of 10 House Republicans that voted to impeach Donald Trump over a case of encouraging the Jan. 6 deadly attack on the U.S. Capital. He said Friday that he will not run for reelection in 2022.

New York’s congressman from New York, who announced that he would vote in favor of impeachment as the first House Republican caucus member, stated that he had decided to not run again to spend more time with his loved ones.

Katko stated that his conscience, principles and commitment to doing what is right has guided all of my decisions as a Congressman, including today. His fourth, two-year term is for northern New York.

The Senate and House hold narrow majorities of Democrats.

Trump was narrowly exonerated by the Senate as he is the first U.S. president to be impeached two times in American history. Trump has thrown a punch at Republicans for claiming that he lost 2020 to Democrat Joe Biden because of voter fraud.
