Following an alleged relationship, Mark Schlissel was fired as University of Michigan president. Mary Sue Coleman became interim president.

After receiving an anonymous complaint from Schlissel about his “inappropriate relationship” with a University employee, the school made this decision. Officials said Schlissel, 63, also used his university email account to communicate with the employee “in a manner inconsistent with the dignity and reputation of the University,” members of the University of Michigan board of regents wrote on the school’s website.

Schlissel called the employee “sexier” in one email. Schlissel also told Schlissel last month that he could give the person a briefing at the Big Ten Championship game. Schlissel referred to the employee as “sexier” in one of his emails. Coleman will serve as interim president until the summer, when members of the board can name a successor. From 2002 to 2014, she was the University of Michigan’s president.

She said that she was saddened about the situation but honored to once again be asked to represent the University of Michigan. “When my 2014 presidency ended, the U-M campus was my last stop. I stated that this wonderful university had been the best experience in my professional career. It’s an honor to be back in such an important interim capacity.
