LONDON — AmazonPlans to end accepting payments have been scrapped VisaCredit cards available in the U.K.
It was the largest e-commerce company. expected to prevent Brits using a Visa-issued credit card from Jan. 19. The firm, however, stated Monday that the changes “will not take place”.
“We are working closely with Visa on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk,” an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC by email.
Amazon made the shocking announcement initially in November. It cited “high fees Visa charges” for credit card processing transactions. Visa stated at that time it was disappointed by the decision and would seek a solution with Amazon.
These two companies are known to have fought in the past. Amazon last year announced that it would introduce 0.5% surcharges for Visa cards in Australia, Singapore and New Zealand.
Amazon has yet to explain why it reversed its decision to stop Visa cards in the U.K. and whether this is permanent or temporary.
A Visa spokesperson said that Amazon customers will be able to continue using Visa cards at Amazon.co.uk until we reach an agreement.
