PARIS (Reuters] – Novak Djokovic may be banned from the French Open, as it stands now. The Sports Ministry stated Monday that there was no exemption to France’s recent vaccine pass law.

After losing an appeal to overturn his visa cancellation, Djokovic became the world number one. He hasn’t been given COVID-19 vaccine.

France’s vaccination pass law approved Sunday by the parliament. This will make it mandatory that all people possess a certificate of vaccination in order to gain entry to public areas such as cafes, restaurants and long-distance train stations.

The rule is very simple. According to the ministry, the vaccine pass would be implemented in institutions that are already under the health pass as soon as it is passed,” the minister said.

This applies to all spectators and professional athletes. And that’s all until further notice.

Roland Garros will be in May. We hope the situation will improve between now and then. We’ll have to wait and see. But, clearly there is no exception.”

Serbian Djokovic was denied the opportunity to bid for the record 21st Grand Slam title at Australian Open.
