PARIS (Reuters), -French carmaker Renault (PA) stated that worldwide group sales in 2021 had dropped for the third straight year due to problems in supply of chips.

Renault reported that passenger car and light vehicle sales fell by 4.5% last year to 2696,401 units.

Despite sales for the Renault brand falling by 5.3%, Dacia sales increased by 3.1% and Lada sales rose by 0.3%.

Renault is pushing its international peers into electric cars under Chief Executive Luca de Meo. This is resulting in an increase in its share in the most lucrative channels.

Renault stated that the percentage of retail sales in five of its European main countries, France, Germany Spain, Italy, and Italy, now stands at 58%. This is 6 more than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
