Unilever says GSK consumer arm ‘strong strategic fit’ for business

Dove soap manufacturer UnileverOn Monday, the company indicated that it was looking for a contract. GlaxoSmithKline’sConsumer health business deemed it to be a strong strategic fit after the rejected 50-billion-pound ($68.4 trillion) approach.

GSK announced over the weekend it rejected Unilever’s offer for the company’s consumer healthcare business. This is where brands such as Sensodyne toothpaste, Emergen C vitamin supplement and Sensodyne toothpaste are located.

Unilever stressed that “the acquisition would create scale, and a platform for growth, in the U.S.A., China, and India with additional opportunities in other emerging market,” pointing out the synergies in vitamin supplements and oral care.

Bloomberg News reports that Unilever met with banks to discuss additional financing in order to offer GSK’s consumer product division a sweetened deal.

Unilever is expected to reveal a plan to improve its business in the next month.
