Investing.com – The dollar was down on Tuesday morning in Asia, while the from the Bank of Japan dictated the yen’s moves.

This chart tracks the greenback’s value against a basket currency by tracking it at 10:08 pm ET (3:08 GMT).

This pair saw 0.12% increase to 114.73

The pair edged up 0.177% to 0.7222. And the pair edged down 0.144% to 0.6806.

While the pair fell 0.11%, it rose 0.11% at 6.3410.

The Bank of Japan handed down its earlier in the day, with the interest rate steady at –0.10%.

The dollar’s weakness came despite a continual rise in U.S. Treasury yields. As the Asian session began and trade was resumed following a U.S. holiday, the two-year yields surpassed 1% for only the second time since February 2020. The five-year yields increased 3.6bps to 1.5960%. This is the highest level since January 2020.

In 2022 yields were on a rising trend. Investors expect the U.S. Federal Reserve (USF Reserve) to increase interest rates as early as March.

Ray Attrill from National Australia Bank, Head of FX Strategy told Reuters: “The dilemma everyone is dealing with is whether the dollar relative to yields is a screaming sell or there are a lot dollar supportive news priced into.”

The anomaly could have been caused by investors reacting to the historical fact that the dollar peaked at the Fed’s rate increases or traders anticipating a rise in global economic growth. Attrill, however, was skeptical of both arguments.

In the meantime, the Bank of England’s expectations of raising its own interest rates have given the pound an extra boost. According to ING analysts any currency weakness as Boris Johnson is facing calls to resign will be contained

Investors will be watching speeches by Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), and her colleagues as well as minutes from Thursday’s December policy meeting.

The price of cryptocurrencies was $42,353, which continues the downtrend it has followed since November 2021 when it reached a record $69,000 high.
