PARIS (Reuters), ECB policymaker Francois Villeroy de Galhau, French central banker and ECB policymaker, said Tuesday that if inflation continues to rise for longer than anticipated, the European Central Bank would adjust its monetary policies more rapidly.

Villeroy stated that French inflation will fall gradually over the next months, to below 2.2% by the year’s end. Villeroy spoke at a Paris conference held by Dauphine University.

Villeroy stated that “if inflation were to become more persistent, we have no doubts that we would be able to adapt our monetary policy faster in order to return to our 2% target.”
