(Reuters) – The COVID-19 vaccines using mRNA technology are safe for pregnant mothers and babies. This was the conclusion of an extensive review that included several studies.

According to the European Medicines Agency, the review was based upon 65,000 studies that included pregnancies of different stages. It found no evidence of a greater risk of miscarriages or complications in pregnancies.

Pfizer (NYSE:), and German partner BioNTech as well as Moderna (NASDAQ) currently provides such vaccines to European Union.

Although there were limitations in data collection, the EMA stated that results could be compared across different studies.

“The benefits of receiving mRNA COVID-19 vaccines during pregnancy outweigh any possible risks for expectant mothers and unborn babies,” the agency said https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/news/covid-19-latest-safety-data-provide-reassurance-about-use-mrna-vaccines-during-pregnancy.

A review conducted internally also showed that COVID-19 injections are equally effective at reducing hospitalisations and deaths in pregnant women than in those who were not.

Several EU nations have already endorsed COVID-19 vaccinations for pregnant women. The EMA backing of mRNA shots will likely boost vaccine campaigns in small countries that rely upon the scientific knowledge of the regulator.
