Americans on Tuesday started placing orders for free Covid tests promised by the Biden administration after the federal government rolled out the website a day earlier than expected — with some complaining on social media that they were blocked from ordering their own supplies.

Jen Psaki (White House press secretary) stated that covidtests.gov is still in the testing phase. The website will be officially launched Wednesday morning. CNBC reported that any orders made during Tuesday’s website testing phase are accepted and shipped. White House spokesperson Kevin Munoz said this to CNBC.

Each household can only take four tests that are based on their residential address. According to the White House, there is a limit to how many tests people can request to guarantee broad access to this program.

The website will take you to the Postal Service order form where your name, address, and payment information can be submitted.

The Biden administration stated that the Postal Service would ship test within 7 to 12 business days of orders being placed. According to the Biden administration, orders will start shipping on Tuesday.

While some customers said the website was simple and easy to use, others – particularly people who live in apartment buildings – reported problems in social media posts on Tuesday.

Psaki stated that “every website launch we see comes with risk,” during a White House briefing on Tuesday. We can’t promise there won’t have a few bugs. She said that the Postal Service and administration have the most talented tech teams working together to make the project a success.

The White House launched this website following a nationwide outcry about testing shortages in the holiday season, as highly contagious variants of omicron Covid swept the country. Large and small pharmacies struggled with keeping at-home test supplies in stock when demand spiked.

Joe Biden, President of the United States, stated that his administration has procured 1,000,000 at-home test kits for Americans to free. Contracts for these tests are being awarded by the Defense Department in conjunction with the Health and Human Services Department.
