WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. President Joe Biden’s approval rating dropped to its lowest point in his presidency this week. Americans seemed exhausted by the COVID-19 Pandemic and its economic tolls according to the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

According to the national poll conducted between Jan. 19-20 in the United States, 43% of adults approved of Biden’s work as President, with 52% disapproving and the remaining 22% not knowing. Biden had a 50% approval and a 45% disapproval rating in the previous week’s poll.

Biden had a popularity of over 50% his first month in office. However, Biden began to lose favoritism in August as COVID-19 deaths rose across the country while the U.S.-backed Afghan government fell.

The ongoing slump in Biden’s popularity is ringing alarm bells https://www.reuters.com/world/us/biden-must-tighten-focus-economy-pandemic-before-midterms-democrats-say-2022-01-19 in his party, with Democrats worried dissatisfaction could cost them their congressional majorities in Nov. 8 elections. Biden’s legislative plan could collapse if Republicans are elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, or Senate.

Biden, in rare public appearance on Wednesday, acknowledged Americans’ dismay at his year-end. He vowed to continue fighting the significant challenges of the pandemic, inflation and the global shortages that reached a nearly 40-year peak in December.

According to the weekly poll, the two most important issues facing Americans are the economy and the health of the public.

In the same period of Donald Trump’s presidency about 37% of Americans praised his work in office while 59% disagreed.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey is available online and in English across the United States. This latest poll collected responses from 1,004 adults. It included 453 Democrats as well as 365 Republicans. The credibility interval, which is a measurement of precision and accuracy, has been set at 4 percentage points.
