FBI agents conducted a search near U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar’s Texas residence on Wednesday. A spokeswoman for the agency called it “court-authorized law enforcement activities.”

It was unclear at the time what motivated and how broad this search was. The Monitor of McAllen in Texas first reported on the search. It was reported that over a dozen federal agents passed through Cuellar’s residence, carrying cases and other objects.

Rosanne Hughes spokeswoman said that the FBI had been present at Windridge Drive and Estate Drive in Laredo to conduct court-authorized law enforcement activities. The FBI is unable to comment further on the ongoing investigation.

Cuellar’s office released a concise statement which did not specifically address the nature and location of the search.

Cuellar, the Congressman will cooperate fully in all investigations. “He is determined to ensure that justice and law are upheld,” read the statement.

Like the FBI’s statement, it did not shed any light on agents’ intentions.

Cuellar represents a region that stretches from the U.S. border to Mexico, near McAllen, to Laredo and north to San Antonio’s eastern outskirts. Cuellar, a moderate Democrat, holds a seat in the House Appropriations Committee.
