Covid-19-related cases are increasing across the country. Both Republican governors and Democratic governors have issued new and reinstated emergency medical orders to try and slow down the spread and relieve the pressure on hospitals.

Officials from Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Kansas and California have all announced executive measures — some of which are renewals of emergency orders that are expiring or have been lifted — since the start of the month.

The new round of orders does not include business closings or lockdowns that were ordered at the start of the pandemic. It is intended to allow for more resources, so the state and other local authorities can be prepared to handle the influx of patients and possibly overwhelmed hospitals.

New Jersey governor. Phil Murphy (Democrat), said that New Jersey had to be “…”commit every resource available“To beat back the wave”, he declared when he renewed his state of emergency declarations and public health emergency last week.

Murphy said that declarations wouldn’t have “any new impact whatsoever” on the residents’ daily lives.

“This what this doesn’t mean: It doesn’t mean any new universal directives or passports,” said he in a briefing. It does not refer to lockdowns. This does not refer to gathering or business restrictions.

After months and months of decreasing case numbers, Covid infections rose dramatically over the holidays because of the contagious omicron variant.

According to Johns Hopkins University data, the U.S. reported more than 740,000 cases each day in the last week. It is three times more than the previous record for last winter.

The data suggests that although omicron is more easily transmitted, it doesn’t make people sicker. The overwhelming amount of cases continues to strain health-care system. Omicron is also known to avoid vaccine protection. Omicron cases have led to hospitals being shortstaffed because infected healthcare workers are isolated.
