Oath Keepers member charged with U.S. Capitol riot sedition to seek release -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A member of the far-right Oath Keepers group charged with seditious conspiracy https://www.reuters.com/world/us/fbi-arrests-far-right-militia-group-oath-keepers-leader-jan-6-probe-nyt-2022-01-13 over allegations he helped plan the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol will ask a judge on Thursday to release him while he awaits trial.

Edward Vallejo, one of eleven people that prosecutors linked with the Oath Keepers is being charged with seditious conspiracy. Prosecutors claim Vallejo poses a danger to the community and they want him in prison while their case develops.

According to a court filing dated Jan. 18, the Justice Department stated that Vallejo participated in a plot by Stewart Rhodes of Oath Keepers to assault Congress and oppose the transfer power from Trump to Biden, a Democrat. Trump falsely claimed that his defeat in the November 2020 elections was due to fraud. This prompted the riot.

The Justice Department stated in a court filing that Vallejo was a major player in the plot. He agreed to and prepared for the transport of firearms and similar equipment into Washington, D.C., according to the Justice Department.

Vallejo, according to the prosecution, “also presents a risk of obstruction if he is released.”

Vallejo’s court appointed public defender stated last week at a short court hearing that he would not plead guilty.

The first indictment against the 11 was released Jan. 13. It is the first indictment that alleged participants were ever charged with seditious conspiracies, which means trying to “overthrow, bring down, or destroy by force” the United States government.
