LONDON, (Reuters) –Meat Loaf has passed away at the age of 74. He was a U.S.-based rock icon who achieved worldwide fame through his album “Bat Out of Hell”.

Michael Lee Aday was an actor and singer who sold over 100 million records worldwide.

The title song from Bat of Hell, which lasted almost 10 minutes long, was one of his hits. He also recorded “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”, a 1993 album that included “Bat Out of Hell II”: Back into Hell.

Meat Loaf was born in Dallas in Texas in 1947. He performed in Broadway musicals like “Hair” or “The Rocky Horror Show.”

In 1972, his focus switched to rock music. He began working with Jim Steinman and recorded his debut album. It showcased the power of his voice and established Jim Steinman as a motorcycle-riding and leather-clad rock star.

“Like an a bat from hell, I’ll go when the morning arrives; When it’s over, like the bat out of Hell, I’ll disappear, gone, disappeared,” Meat Loaf sang “Bat of Hell”.

He appeared later in movies such as “Rocky Horror Show”, Wayne’s World, and “Fight Club”.
