Biden nominates Democrat Lindenbaum for Federal Election Commission -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – President Joe Biden will nominate Dara Linbaum, an election lawyer, to the Federal Election Commission. The FEC is the federal regulatory agency responsible for enforcing U.S. law on campaign finance.
Lindenbaum, a Democrat, has been a Washington, D.C., lawyer where she counsels clients in compliance with federal and state laws regarding campaign finance and represents them before the FEC.
Biden and Congress Democrats have failed to pass voter rights legislation despite Republican opposition. She is now being nominated as one of six FEC commissioners. This legislation would have given the FEC greater enforcement power.
A law prohibits more than 3 FEC commissioners from representing the same party. Official FEC actions require at least 4 votes. Six-year staggered terms are required for commissioners.
Lindenbaum will replace Steven Walther as Vice Chair, who is an independent and was commonly viewed as being in line with the FEC’s two Democrats. Lindenbaum replaces Steven Walther, Vice Chair of the FEC. The FEC has a 3-3 split.
