(Bloomberg.) Europe is quickly moving to get out of the emergency coronavirus actions that have affected all aspects life for two years. It recognizes the futility of the measures against the Omicron variant.

Ireland is set to announce it’s dropping most pandemic restrictions on Friday, days after England outlined its own dramatic move to scrap rules forcing people to wear face masks in shops and ending mandatory isolation for positive cases.

France also relaxes curbs, even though it reported a record 470,000 cases within one day.

These announcements are a sign that Europe is on the right track to returning to normal or at least something similar. They also show that the omicron phenomenon is almost unstoppable. The EU reported more than 2 million cases in just one day on Thursday.

Omicron symptoms being milder that the older delta variant, and hospitalsization rates under control, government are having a hard time justifying imposing restrictions on businesses and individuals. Some have already started talking about treating Covid-19 as an endemic, rather than a pandemic, as they move toward “living with the virus” policies.

That push will be made possible by the widespread availability of vaccines. While inoculations haven’t been able to halt omicron infections, studies show they limit the chance of developing severe symptoms. European authorities repeatedly stated that most intensive-care hospital admissions for the virus are made by unvaccinated patients.

Austria has made shots compulsory in an effort to ensure that as many people as possible are vaccinated. Legislators passed Thursday a law to implement the policy. This will lead to fines upto 3,600 Euro ($4,100).

Irish government medical advisors suggested that bars and restaurants be closed earlier and that vaccine passes not needed to use indoor gyms were dropped. Local media, including RTE, reported that the proposal was made by RTE. Only three rules will likely be kept in effect: masks, international travel permits and isolation for those with serious symptoms.

France is removing the requirement that you work at home for three consecutive days per week. It also abolishes the need to use a mask outside and will eliminate attendance limitations in sports arenas as well as cultural venues.

Some experts from the World Health Organization caution against complacency. The virus may mutate once again, and it is important to keep people safe.

Germany appears to be sticking to its rules when Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, meets Monday with leaders from the states to talk about the pandemic.

Stephan Weil, the premier of the state of Lower Saxony, said the country should stick with its current measures, but doesn’t need stiffer controls despite soaring infections.

“We still need protective measures but we don’t need to return to total lockdown as the situation has changed, he said on ARD television on Friday.
